Frequently asked questions
Melanotan 2 is a synthetic analogue of a peptide hormone (protein) known as melanocyte-stimulating hormone, or a-MSH.
a-MSH already exists naturally within our bodies and is secreted by the pituitary gland, hypothalamus and skin cells.
The a-MSH acts on specialised receptors in skin cells, causing them to produce more melanin, which leads to increased pigmentation of the skin, aka tanning.
Yes, some UV exposure is necessary for Melanotan 2 to activate and develop its tanning effects. MT2 works by stimulating melanin production in your skin, but UV light—whether from natural sunlight or sunbeds—is what triggers the darkening of that melanin into a visible tan.
That said, MT2 significantly reduces the amount of UV exposure needed to achieve a deep tan compared to tanning without it. Many users find they need only brief, controlled sessions of UV exposure to build and maintain their desired colour.
Important Tips:
Always start with minimal UV exposure to see how your skin reacts.
Use sunscreen on sensitive areas and avoid overexposure, especially early on.
Once your base tan is established, you can often maintain it with much less UV than usual.
Melanotan 2 is not a replacement for UV light—it enhances your skin’s response to it.
Year round tan without UV exposure
Melanotan 2 allows users to develop a deep brown tan which lasts all year round, with minimal to no UV/sun exposure. Whilst UV and sun exposure will fast track the speed and intensity of your tan, as little as 10 minutes will achieve this and skin pigment will still continue to darken even without UV exposure. This means users don't have to expose themselves to the harsh, damaging and ageing UV rays from the sun for extended periods in order to develop a deep tan.
Protection against skin cancer and melanoma
Melanotan 2 also prevents against skin cancer. The a-MSH hormone in Melanotan 2 causes specialised receptors in skin cells to produce more melanin. Melanin protects cells from DNA damage which can cause melanoma.
Can help assist with weight loss
although named for its stimulatory effect on pigment cells, melanocyte-stimulating hormone also acts on receptors in the hypothalamus which modulate a broad spectrum of nuerol pathways including appetite regulation and several metabolic processes. These metabolic processes as well as a suppressed appetite have shown in studies in the brain resulting which in a suppressed appetite which can aid weight loss.
Can be used to treat certain skin conditions
Melanotan 2 is helpful in the treatment of certain skin conditions, particularly roseca
Can be used to treat fimbromylasia
Can be used to treat erectile dysfunction in men
Melanotan 2 has anti-inflammatory properties
Melanotan 2 can cause some unwanted side effects, particularly when you first start using it. These side effects include;
Nausea
Stomach cramps
Loss of appetite
Flushing
Tiredness
Spontaneous elections in men
Darkening of moles/ freckles
It is because of these side effects that we suggest taking Melanotan 2 just before bed.
If you side effects are significant we recommend lowering your dose and gradually increasing, as side effects will begin to subside as your body gets used to the peptide.
Most side effects are temporary and mild. Always start with a small dose to assess your body’s response.
